BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR |
|

|
I
have totally surprised myself by picking this as my movie of the year, but I
just couldn't get over how it brought a fresh look at an old genre and
invested it with with such fire and crackle. Daniel Craig has the same
masculine swagger that gave Sean Connery his edge as James Bond. The
amazing action scenes, which actually made me at times a bit dizzy, combined
with a storyline with logical plot twists, kept you entertained from the
beginning. It was a winner at the box office and is my movie of the
year. Thank you Casino Royale for a
couple hours of pure entertainment!! |

Cars: What sets this cartoon apart is the
amazing graphics: the racing episodes can make you dizzy and the desert
scenes are stunningly beautiful. Many of the jokes will be over the
head of younger kids (some of who appeared bored by its length), but it is a
cartoon adults can enjoy too.

Charlotte's Web: Frankly, the movie feels a bit like a sequel to "Babe", but it does have its
own charm. I was a bit creeped out with the spider in the beginning,
but Julia Robert's dulcet tones become very comforting and I found myself
lured in the movie's warmth. And, yeah, I did get teary at the ending.

Dreamgirls:
Is a substantial movie musical with strength
and energy and solid performances by the entire cast. Jennifer Hudson
is the stand-out with her amazing voice and surprising acting skills as the
one who is forced out of the group, however, Beyonce Knowles gives a
performance showing depth and subtlety.

Inside Man:
is an entertaining heist movie, directed with lots of snap, crackle,
and pop by Spike Lee. The plot has lots of twists and turns and
the satisfying ending will definitely put a smile on your face. seen

Little Miss
Sunshine: is one of those quirky little comedies that both bemuses
and amuses. It did have some very funny and strangely
touching moments, but have to admit wouldn't be for everyone's tastes. seen

Monster House: I saw this one in the new 3D process and was surprised
to find myself actually a bit scared watching it. This isn't the lousy
old red and blue 3D of old - this stuff is really well done and you will
find yourself wanting to reach out and touch stuff, though you know its
actually on the screen. seen

The Pursuit of Happyness:
is the inspirational true story of man who sacrifices everything to make a
better life for his son. Will Smith gives a touching strong
performance, but his real son, Jaden, is the rare find, in a natural
performance that shows the relationship between a father and a son.

The Queen: I
cannot say enough about Helen Mirren's terrific performance as Queen
Elizabeth II dealing with the death of Princess Diana. She makes the Queen a true human being with elements of humor, wisdom, and
even humbleness and I am sure her performance will be recognized come Oscar
time. seen

Walk the Line:
centers on an powerful performance by Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash during
his rise to fame in the 50's, addiction to drugs, and passion for June
Carter, solidly played by Reese Witherspoon. The fact that they both
did their own singing adds to the feel of the movie.

World Trade Center:
is a bit like taking off a bandage too soon, it hurts as much as the
original wound. Oliver Stone has managed to craft a movie that
actually uplifts us in remembering that common everyday individuals will
risk their lives to save strangers - an ultimate act of good
in this world. seen
