I remember being absolutely knocked out by her (Oscar nominated) performance in "Elizabeth" that took the character from a young vulnerable woman to a queen fully in control of her destiny.  Since then I have realized that wasn't the first movie I had ever seen her in.  For, she is able to change from ordinary to extraordinary with just a little bit of makeup and a lot of talent.  Just some examples of her range: she played an inmate of a W.W.II Japanese prisoner of war camp in "Paradise Road", a Victorian wife in "The Ideal Husband", the kidnapped woman on the edge in "Bandits", and the raving bitch wife in "The Shipping News".   Here are just a few of her many remarkable "faces":
