Well, it is confession time. Although Sean Connery is
the hottest of hot, I must admit that I have a
great passion for Gabriel Byrne. I love his soulful eyes and
his sexy Irish accent. He first became known to audiences (and myself) when he
portrayed Columbus in a 1985 TV mini-series. He has followed up with many successful
roles in films (and an unfortunately cancelled recent TV sit-com).
He is easily able to go from playing villeins, such as Satan in "End of Days" to sweet romantic leads such of Professor Bhaer in "Little Women". My particular favorites are his performances in "Point of No Return" and "Smilla's Sense of Snow", where he plays the "bad guy", but with a sensitive side. He's a terrific actor whom I always look forward to seeing in a film.
On a personal note, he didn't begin acting until he was 27 and his first career choice was the priesthood. He is divorced from actress Ellen Barkin, with whom he had two children.
